What is the deal with these wheels?

BMW cross-lace wheels (tubeless) present quite a challenge when it comes to truing. These wheels are built like no others (except Moto-Guzzi who bought licensing) and are so unique they are patented. There reasons why these wheels are diffcult to true. The first is the lace pattern itself. The nipple is located in the hub vs. the rim, and the spokes cross over the center to the other side of the rim. This unique design prevents the rim from being moved into true with spoke tension like a typical spoked wheel.
If the rim is bent, even slightly, it is impossible to get the wheel true. The wheel must be completely disassembled, spokes and nipples thoroughly cleaned and lubed, rim straightened (or replaced) and then re-assembled. Only then can the truing process begin. This is a very time consuming process, but each and every step is critical to the final outcome.

Turnaround is 2-3 days.

If you need refinishing, adds some time depending on what and time of year, usually 1-2 day for basic polishing, 1-2 weeks on anodizing/powdercoating:

1) we can polish $60/hour, time depends on the quality of finish and condition of the rim. We quote it before we do it.

2) We can powdercoat, $75/rim, includes blasting and most colors.

3) We can anodize, if the rim is new, cost is usually $40-50/rim, if we need to strip and polish, $75/rim, if rim is in really bad condition, we recommend powdercoating, because it will cover up blemishes and any pitting that has occurred from the aluminum being exposed.

4) To media blast and clear coat the hub, we charge $35.  To media blast and powdercoat older model hubs(including GSPD's), we charge $65/hub plus $10 per bearing R&R.  Newer model hubs are $80-100/hub plus $10 per bearing R&R.

Shipping is about $20-25 per wheel each way. You can ship with or without the tire.  Tire adds some to the shipping(from the shipping company).  We charge $25 to dismount, mount, and balance.
