AdvLife with Woodys Wheel Works and RawHyde
Hi Folks... many of you know that RawHyde Adventures has been running a training school for Adventure Motorcyclists for over a decade & during that ten year period we have served thousands of riders and learned a lot. One of the most important things we've learned is whats "missing" for many Adventure Motorcyclists. Thats what this email is about !
Let me introduce you all to a new website called Adventure Life that provides solutions to some of the challenges of adventure riding! The site is www.advlife.us Let me explain a little more -
Challenge #1 - A lack of community. In our 10 years of training riders, we have noticed that most folks come to the school alone ! We ask why and the most common answer we get is "I don't have any buddies that own these types of bikes" and there is usually a follow up comment like this... "I guess if I''m gonna do this adventure thing; I'll be riding alone.... so I figured I'd get some training to limit my risk when I'm out there by myself"
Its really no fun to go adventure riding alone and its much more satisfying to share the experience with some friends... so the first thing this new website does is give you a way to connect with other riders who are both accessible AND interested in adventure riding. RawHyde and BMW have been working for two years to build these communities of riders across the country. Just click on the "community"link to find more than 60 communities of riders across the USA. I'd like to stress that these communities are not clubs or anything like that... just groups of folks interested in riding ... and sharing the experience.
Challenge #2 Outfitting your bike. Another thing we've noticed at RawHyde over the years is that the motorcycles ridden by our trainers are a subject of great interest to most of our students. Why?? Well - its because they are all "equipped" with the various gizmos and gadgets that our trainers have chosen to make back country travel both safer and more enjoyable... We are constantly asked "why" we have a skid pan or bar risers... or "where" we got our engine protection bars... or "who" made the headlight protectors we use. This new website introduces you to all the companies that we think do a good job of providing parts and such to the adventure rider... Everyones there... all on one site. Easy navigation... everything you need. The website also introduces you to the people behind the companies & in many cases you'll find that they are adventure riders too and they started their companies because they saw a need. You'll also note that most of these companies are pretty small (just like RawHyde) so this is sort of a "co-op site" designed to make it easy for you to learn more about all of us.
Challenge #3 What to do? We have learned that there are not a lot of "Adventure Specific" events being hosted in the US... There are lots of rallies... but those seem dedicated to asphault and beer... (not that theres anything wrong with beer;-) We have decided to collectively host a series of "adventure only" events around the country. Most of these events are free and sponsored by the companies shown here... a few of them (the multi day events that RawHyde does) have a fee associated but nonetheless they are all oriented only toward the adventure rider. MOST of these events are being hosted only via "Adventure Life", so you wont be getting the information from any other source.
Please check back often because we're just getting started. Future plans for the site include product reviews, blogs, a GPS track repository where you can download great rides for free and a whole lot more.
